Some concerns i have about my paper is i could have gone into detail with more of my points and provided more information to make my paper a little bit longer.

I think that there should be no classes on Fridays for all students at the University of South Carolina. Friday is the worse day of the week for college students, even worse than mondays because we're already thinking about the weekend especially if it's a game like Clemson. All friday classes should be eliminated and we should only have class monday through thursday.

If we didn't have class on fridays that could mean for more work during the other days which would be even worse. You would have to cram all your classes and hw for those four days which could end up hurting the students rather than helping.

The problem that i am discussing is the legalization of medical marijuana.

* first perspective is the patients that use and benefit from using medicinal marijuana

*second and third perspectives are the doctors who either are for prescribing marijuana or those who are not.

* fourth perspective is the general public in America and my own stand on the issue.

I believe that the federal government shouldn't have a say in the state laws as long as its being observed carefully by state officials and is not being cultivated for profit.

I changed my essay a lot after my peer review. I noticed i did come off a little too bias on one side of the argument and i didn't notice it until after. I stated my view on the argument but i did not expand on it like i did in the first draft. I also changed the organization of how it was written and switched and reworded a few paragraphs to make it much easier to understand.

This article speaks about the benefits of using medical marijuana with patients who have symptoms such as anxiety, pain, or insomnia. 15 states have already passed the law allowing the use of the drug and more are discussing the issue in making it legal in their state. The article is a little bias to the legalization of medical marijuana and discusses why physicians recommend medical marijuana.

This journal is discussing the importance of the patient/physician relationship. It is very important for the two to have a good relationship but there is a concern about the use of medical marijuana because of the little known medical facts about the drug. This article can be used to help discuss how some people believe some doctors are just giving out medical licenses without the proper diagnoses.

This book speaks about the Medical use of Cannabis and all its benefits. It also discusses the effects of the drug and debates if it is addictive or not. I can use this to help back up my argument about how Medical Marijuana can benefit more than hurt ones body.

This article is speaks about dispensaries which are the legal stores for buying medical marijuana. The federal government is cracking down on dispensaries in California trying to shut them down for breaking federal law. Even though they signed an agreement not to step in with patients who followed state law.

In Canada they want to propose the Canadian Association of Medical Cannabis Dispensaries and would become the national certifier of medical cannabis. This article can be used to help determine how the dispensaries work and how they are regulated to keep people safe.

This article discusses why and how people are joining the medical marijuana business. Many workers that have been laid off from their previous jobs need a new career path and growing medical cannabis has been their new way of earning money. Nick Tennant opened Med Grow Cannabis college where students go to learn how to grow marijuana to start their own business.

This article describes what doctors have found out about medical marijuana. The benefits and the effects on the immune system. It gives facts and opinions of doctors about what they believe about marijuana having medical use. Doctor Tashkin leads to believe that Marijuana should not have a medical purpose at this time being because of the very little known knowledge about the drug.

This is a Canadian Article that discusses how few studies that people with aids/hiv have similar effects from marijuana. There are no published surveys about any other conditions benefiting from medical marijuana. A survey was taken and 85% of why people said they use medical marijuana was for pain and nausea.

The topic I chose to write about is if medical marijuana should be legal in all 50 states. This has been a major issue across America for year and is now being taken more seriously. There’s the side that thinks that the Marijuana has no medical use and the side that believes it does. There are facts that back up each side which make it a very interesting argument.

This issue is a major debate between politicians, law enforcement, and people that are very ill who actually need the drug. Some politicians are trying to make it legal in their state while others are not. The law enforcement mainly wants to keep everything how it is while the sick people are fighting for it and for many it is to keep them alive.

Personally I believe that it should be legal in all states because there are sick people all over the United States that could benefit from the use of medical marijuana.

I chose three topics because they are 3 of the most interesting topics that are local around the United States but also global. I looked on news sites and searched the web and read information on all three topics and they were all pretty easy to search. I believe the debate on medical marijuana and how it should be regulated is the most interesting to me and that is the one ill most likely discuss.

 The first add i chose is a beer ad by schlipps. It's a vintage add that adds comedy for the viewers.

 The second add i chose in a cigarette ad by the brand camel, it also is a vintage looking picture.

I found both of these ads on the internet but they both originally were in magazines. I chose the older looking ones beacuse i wanted to compare old vs new. In the first one, it shows a husband and wife, and the husband looks like he just got off work and is glad he still gets a beer even though the food is burned. It seems like this is for more of the older crowd rather than young since its showing a married couple. And in the second one it shows a younger woman sitting on a car enjoying her cigarette. She's in her work uniform so it suggests that she's on her break and needs to relax, and smoking camels will do that for a person.

9/27 the cooking age

In the cooking age, Richard Wrangham discusses how fire and human has changed humans today. He in interviewed by Elisabeth Townsends which he argues about fire and using it to cook makes us who we are today. Fire was not used by humans which made it harder to eat food because our ancestors had different body types. Wrangham mentions the earth oven which is a whole in the ground they used to cook food. Just like today men expected women to have their food made before they got home regardless if they have a successful day hunting or not which relates to humans today because men expect food when they get home from a long day of work.

The images showed many different people from all over the world with various meals. Most of the families were non European and their food could be seen as being unhealthy or not appetizing to many Americans. They mainly had crops or food that was either caught, like bugs or fish. The food in all these pictures honestly look more healthy than the typical American household which one was shown in the gallery and all most of their food was unhealthy and fattening.

I think i could have provided a few more details in my argument. I think i could have described the ethos and kairos a little better and analyzed how the author more than the story.

Story of a snitch

Kahn tells us the story of John Dowery who is a "snitch" because he knows who murdered a drug dealer just blocks from his house. He waits to inform the police because he knows the dangers of going to the police. When he finally does decide to go so he can help himself out in a different case, he winds up getting shot in the head and is killed. Kahn is trying to show the audience that it is not always the right thing to go to the police but to just keep your mouth shut so you will not engander yourself or those around you that you love.

Rhetorical outline

Thesis: I believe what Kahn is arguing is that being an informant for the police is not always the right thing to do and people are dying over "snitching."

Purpse: People are losing their lives just because they are trying to save someone else or put a criminal behind bars. He is writing this for those who have been in this situation or will be in the future to warn them about the consequences. Also it is for the law enforcement around the US to try so they can try and protect the witnesses better. In recent years too many innocent witnesses have been found murdered before they can testify, meaning the criminals continue walking free.

Author argues by: The author gives statistics about people who have been hurt or even killed for informing the police. He tells numerous stories where "snitching" has gotten someone killed

Authors Motivation: The author has researched and has seen a jump in the murder rates, he mainly focuses on Baltimore but also mentions other dangerous cities. On page (56) he states, "According to the law enforcement experts the problem of dealing with reluctant witnesses has gotten dramatically worse and is reflected in failing conviction rates for violent crimes."

Authors audience: This is written for anyone who has been in this situation or will be in the future to inform them about the dangers of going to the police.Also to the law enforcement around America trying to open their eyes to the violence and innocent kiling of witnesses trying to help them solve a case.

Persuasion to audience: I don't see how this wouldn't persuade the audience. Kahn tells us stores where innocent people are getting injued or killed for "snitching" to the police.

Kairos: Kahnd speaks with law enforcers, civilians in these inner city nieghborhoods, and even drug dealers to help his argument. He always shares statistics he's gathered from law enforcement experts.

Evidence: Kahn introduces us to Dowery and tells us his story through out the argument. He ended up helping the police which cost him his life.

Pathos: We feel as if we know Dowery b the end of the story which connects us to him. He ends up getting murdered at the end which the makes the audience have remorse for his family. Anyone who has grew up in a hard neighborhood where "snitching" is a capitol offense can connect with all the stories the author tells us.

Conclusion: The author wants people to realize that you should mind your own business when it can endanger you or your families safety. Yes its morally right to put a criminal in jail where they belong but its not worth your life.

Thesis Statement

I'm for people minding their own business and not worrying about other people but when it comes to putting a criminal behind bars that is a totally different subject. In most inner city neighborhoods "snitching," on someone is a punishable offense which usually ends in death and i can understand why most people do not act as informants for the police to save their own life because i would probably do the same

Story of a Snitch

In, " Story of a Snitch," the author is arguing the subject of being an informant to the police, or "snitching," the slang term used. The author gives numerous cases where he describes incidents where someone as the opportunity to help the police by giving information and the consequences of doing both. The main character in the essay, John Dowery is a situation where he has the opportunity to inform the cops of a murder suspect and winds up not helping the police. When he finally acts as a whitness to help out himself in a trial of his own he helps put the convicts behind bars which is the cause of his death. The author uses real events that have happened in cities around the US to help his pathos and ethos. Since they are actual events that have happened people can connect emotionally to them and makes his statements credible.

Lada Gaga vs Cindy Sherman

Cindy Sherman is an American photographer and film director known for her conceptual art. Her art is unique in its own way because she sits alone in a room and posed as the model herself. A lot of her photographs are her shown dressed up in a variety of costumes which is similar to Lady Gaga who is always dressed up different costumes. Sherman says that she is not a feminist but many people disagreed with her photos. Lada Gaga on the other hand is not a feminst and makes it known that everyone should be theirself, gay, straight, lesbian, or transgender. Her songs have deep meanings in them which a lot of people around the world can connect with.

catherine beecher

Catherine Beecher was the eldest of a well known English family in her time period. Ever since a young age she has been fascinated in helping to educate women about their roles as being care takers and homemakers. So it doesn't surprise me why she wrote " On the Preservation of A Good Temper in A Housekeeper." She wrote books with her younger sister, Harriet Beecher Stowe and their most famous work is, "The American Woman's home."

1. I believe the term housekeeper according to what i read means a woman who takes care of the household no matter what the situation. Everyday they need to go into work eager and cheerful and should not see an of he tasks difficult by any means.

2. A house keeper needs to have a cheerful temper and handler her duties with pride. And even though sometimes the families plans interfere with the housekeepers plans she must be understanding and make it work the best she can and must be consistent with her plans. Also she needs to handle her plans neatly and orderly.

3. On page 250 she says that there is probably no class of person in the world but describes different classes of women and what they should do and not do within the household.

In class writing assignement 8/30

My whole family is very comfortable with the new technology that's in the world today. We all have cell phones, even my little sister who is now 13 but she has had one for years now. Cell phones are important in today's society. We say that we need them when we really do not but they do make communication a whole lot easier. Also, we all have facebook accounts even my mom and step dad. Since they are much older they are not that involved in the new technology even though my mom uses her blackberry to check her email and her facebook. There is definitely a generation gap between my parents and my siblings and I but that gap is slowly closing. More and more adults are joining these social networking sites and with all these smart phones out today it makes it that much easier to browse the web.
